Donald Earl Smith

The funeral service for Mr. Donald Earl Smith will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2019, at Riverwood Family, with interment at Wellman Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, at Riverwood.

Mr. Smith, 60, of Brookhaven, passed from this life, January 4, 2019, at St. Dominic Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on August 21, 1958, to Thomas Harold and Irene Douglas Smith. Donald was a family man, enjoying the time he was able to spend with his two grandchildren, Tommy and Georgia Rae. Donald married his high school sweet heart and celebrated 37 years of marriage with her. He was one of a kind, a great husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. It was in giving to others that he found joy and satisfaction. If anyone had a “heart of gold” it was Donald. There was no distance too far. He was an outdoorsman as well, enjoying fishing and hunting.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Hannah Hart Smith; granddaughter, Emery Rose Smith; father, T.H. Smith; brother, Tommy Smith; and nephews, Daniel Lofton and Danny Earl Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Hart Smith; mother, Irene Smith Meredith; son, Rodney Sawyer Smith; brother, Rodney Glenn Smith and wife, Rose Mary; sister, Judy Lofton Hart; two grandchildren, Tommy Sawyer Smith and Georgia Rae Smith; father and mother-in-law, Roger and Wyonzie Hart and brother-in-law, Brett Hart and wife, Vicki.

Debbie, Ms. Irene, Judy, Rodney Glenn, Rose Mary, and family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I didn't get to know Donald Earl personally; but Judy has shared her love for her brother...and her whole family; such that I feel as if I knew Donald Earl. I do know that the best tomato sandwich I ever tasted was made with one of Donald Earl's homegrown, vine-ripened, big, red, juicy tomatoes. I know you all miss him very much. I feel very grateful for our promise of eternity through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. May you each feel the comfort that only the Holy Spirit can provide during such a time of sadness. I am praying for your family.
