“ I was privileged and blessed to know Mr. Byrd when I was in the Sea Exploring program of the New Orleans Area Council, Boy Scouts of America in the mid 1970's to early 1980's As Skipper of Sea Explorer Ship 46, Mr. Byrd inspired us with his nautical knowledge and boat handling skills and served as a mentor to many of us. Some of us also owe our careers to Mr. Byrd, particularly those of us in the maritime field. He was a mentor an inspiration and me and to many others and we will never forget him.
